Club History

The Rotary Club of Springfield Metro was chartered in August 2011 with sixty-three members. During our first sixteen months, we have planned and pursued an ambitious, robust agenda to strengthen our club and make a difference in the Springfield community. Here are just a few of our many accomplishments:

 

  • ·       Our membership totaled 3rd highest in donations given to the district this year. A total of $22,251 in sixteen months.
  • ·       Our membership boasts:
    • o   11 Paul Harris Fellows
    • o   5 Bequest Society Members
    • o   2 Major Donors
  • ·       We have taken on sponsorship of two RYLA students.
  • ·       Founded the Interact Club with over 50 members at Nixa High School in conjunction with Nixa Rotary Club.
  • ·       Founded the Metro Change Maker Awards and established the Rotarian of the Year award.
  • ·       We increased our membership 10% to 68 members
  • ·       Earned the Presidential Citation.
  • ·        We took an active role at McGregor Elementary:
    • o   Hosting a pizza party to reward students.
    • o   Providing 1500 MAP Testing snack bags.
    • o   Donating much needed books and supplies.
    • o   Setting up a H.A.B.I.T. store that rewards students for good behavior.
  • ·        We joined together for a Joplin Work Day to help rebuild the community after the devastating tornado.
  • ·       Volunteered our time and labor to several Fifth Tuesday projects:
    • o   Ronald McDonald House
    • o   Pregnancy Crisis Care
    • o   Hickory Gardens
    • o   Bridges for Youth
  • ·       We founded our own charitable foundation and established a newsletter and website to engage the community. Our foundation contributions to date:
    • o   Polio Plus:  $4,390
    • o   Annual Fund:  $12,041
    • o   Permanent Fund:  $600
    • o   Total Foundation Giving: $17,031
    • o   An average yearly contribution of $205 per member.
  • ·       We engaged in International charities by donating laptops, shoes, and clothes to orphanages and schools across Mexico.
  • ·       We developed a leadership program to ensure our chapter is strong for years to come.
  • ·       Our members volunteered at Rock n’ Ribs and hosted the Bass Pro Spring Classic Brat Truck raising a total of $16,745.
  • ·       Our members participated in the Annual basketball tournament raising over $1,000 in sponsorships.
  • ·       One hundred percent of our current membership is a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member.
